Piano lesson

I offer piano and accordion lessons in Manchester

I offer accordion and piano lessons on a one-to-one basis from a dedicated studio in Sale, Manchester. I have been teaching accordion and piano for nearly 20 years and in that time I have taught students from five years old up to 75 years of age.

I believe that people learn best when they are playing music that appeals to them, so I tailor my accordion and piano lessons to you. I think it is important that a music teacher can help their students explore areas of music that the student find enjoyable and interesting. My piano lessons and accordion lessons are tailored to suit your interests.

I am equally happy teaching a wide range of styles from French Musette to Scottish dance and Irish folk music to the tangos of Astor Piazolla and the keyboard works of J.S. Bach.

I am able to teach at any level from absolute beginners, who have never held an accordion before to advanced level lessons, where students wish to improve their skills. I hold a current CRB certificate.

I have a Degree in Music and I have reached Grade 8 in both accordion and piano.

I have a waiting area for other family members to sit during lessons although they are also free to sit in on lessons (with younger students I actively encourage this). Lessons are friendly and relaxed and I teach at a pace best suited to each individual student.

Learning to play the accordion

I offer accordion lessons in Manchester

If you have your own accordion, it will be best to use that for your lessons, but if not, do not worry as I can lend you an instrument while you learn. I teach using both button accordions and piano accordions, though most students start with a piano accordion.

I really think it is essential that you either buy or borrow an accordion because this will allow you to practice between lessons. In my experience, practice is crucial in making progress when learning an instrument. You are unlikely to make much progress learning the accordion if you only get ‘hands on’ whilst with a teacher.

Similarly, with piano tuition, I really suggest that if you do not have a piano at home, you do consider investing in one, so that you can practice outside of your lessons with me.
